For most of Western history, the penalty for saying the wrong thing was death. The fire went underground.

The Hidden Fire follows the thread through the mystery schools, the Gnostics, the Sufis, the Templars, the alchemists, the Rosicrucians, the Freemasons, the Golden Dawn, and every other group of people who decided that the official version of reality was insufficient and built something else in the dark.

These are not fringe stories. The Hermetic tradition shaped the Renaissance. The Rosicrucian manifestos were the original shitpost. Freemasonry built the infrastructure of modern democracy. The occultists were the beta testers of modernity — they ran the ideas first, found the bugs, and the ideas were relaunched centuries later under new branding.
