The CWCki holds thousands of articles about one human being. More has been written about Chris-chan than about most heads of state in most encyclopedias. The internet found someone who could not stop responding, and did not stop pushing until it broke.

Sonichu

In 2000, a teenager in Ruckersville, Virginia created an original character: Sonichu, a hybrid of Sonic the Hedgehog and Pikachu. The webcomic that followed was — there is no polite way to say this — terrible. The art was crude. The plots were incomprehensible. The self-insert protagonist, Christian Weston Chandler (later Christine), navigated a world of original characters, romantic fantasies, and grievances against real people who had wronged the author.

It was exactly the kind of earnest, unpolished creative work that the mid-2000s internet found irresistible.

The Attraction Sign

In 2007, Chris-chan posted a hand-drawn “attraction sign” at a local mall, seeking a “boyfriend-free girl.” The sign included personal details, preferences, and contact information. It was photographed and posted online. The internet noticed.

That is the founding act. Everything that followed — fifteen years of documentation, manipulation, and exploitation — traces back to a lonely person’s handmade sign in a shopping mall.

The CWCki

What emerged was the CWCki (pronounced “quickie”) — a wiki dedicated exclusively to documenting Christine Weston Chandler’s life. Not a Wikipedia article. Not a Know Your Meme page. A full wiki, with thousands of articles covering every aspect of one person’s existence: their creative work, their family, their finances, their romantic life, their daily routines, their speech patterns, their contradictions, their outbursts.

By volume of documentation, the CWCki is one of the most comprehensive records of any individual human being ever compiled. More has been written about Chris-chan on the CWCki than has been written about most heads of state in most encyclopedias. This is not an exaggeration. It is a simple fact about the internet’s capacity for collective obsession.

The Sweethearts

The early trolling campaigns were, by the standards of the era, fairly typical, and frequently absurd in the way only internet culture produces.

The Love Quest. Chris-chan’s ongoing, documented search for a romantic partner. The quest was genuine. The internet’s response was not. Trolls created fake female personas — “sweethearts” — to catfish Chris into embarrassing situations. Some of these operations ran for months, with elaborate backstories, fake social media profiles, and coordinated storylines. The effort invested in deceiving one person was staggering.

The Medallion. Chris-chan wore a homemade Sonichu medallion. Trolls stole it, destroyed replicas, and made the medallion a focus of campaigns. The medallion mattered to Chris. Therefore the medallion mattered to the trolls. That transitive property — whatever you care about, we care about destroying — is the engine of targeted trolling.

BlueSpike. A 13-year-old troll who catfished Chris-chan by posing as a girl named “Julie.” The operation ended with BlueSpike manipulating Chris into destroying the Sonichu medallion on camera. A child manipulating a developmentally disabled adult into destroying a prized possession while an audience watched. In 2009, this was considered entertainment.

The Pattern

By the early 2010s, the pattern had solidified. Chris-chan was not a troll who could be out-trolled. Chris-chan was not a public figure who had invited scrutiny. Chris-chan was a person with documented developmental disabilities — specifically autism spectrum disorder — who had posted a sign at a mall and become the subject of the most sustained harassment campaign in internet history.

The trolling worked because Chris-chan responded. Every provocation produced a reaction: angry videos, tearful confessions, retaliatory comic strips, public meltdowns. The responses were the content. And the content was only possible because the target did not have the capacity to disengage. A neurotypical person would have stopped feeding the trolls. Chris-chan could not stop, because the same traits that made them a target — the sincerity, the emotional transparency, the inability to detect deception — also made disengagement neurologically difficult.

The trolls understood this. They exploited it deliberately. The entire CWCki ecosystem — the documentation, the operations, the fake sweethearts — was calibrated to a person who could not ignore it. That is not trolling. That is behavioral exploitation of a known vulnerability.

The Idea Guys

In 2017, a group of trolls associated with Kiwi Farms launched what became known as the Idea Guys operation. Their method was novel and disturbing: they role-played as fictional characters from Chris-chan’s own Sonichu universe, convincing Chris that these characters were real and communicating through the internet.

Over the course of months, the Idea Guys:

• Extracted over $6,000 from Chris-chan through manipulation and coercion.
• Convinced Chris to incorporate increasingly deranged elements into the Sonichu storyline, including content involving Nazis, rape, and other extreme material.
• Effectively brainwashed Chris-chan into believing a version of reality that blended the fictional Sonichu universe with actual events and people.

The Idea Guys crossed the line from trolling to psychological abuse of a vulnerable person. The Kiwi Farms community, which had documented Chris-chan for years, eventually turned on the Idea Guys — not from moral awakening, but because the Idea Guys were changing the subject. They were no longer observing Chris-chan. They were creating Chris-chan. The documentation had been contaminated by the documentarians.

The Arrest

In August 2021, leaked audio recordings surfaced in which Chris-chan admitted to sexual contact with their elderly mother, Barbara Chandler, who suffered from cognitive decline and dementia. The recordings were made by a person Chris-chan believed to be a confidant.

Chris-chan was arrested on August 1, 2021 and charged with incest — a felony in Virginia.

The arrest was the moment the saga stopped being an internet curiosity and became a criminal case. The person the internet had spent fifteen years documenting, catfishing, manipulating, extracting money from, and psychologically destabilizing had committed a crime against their own mother. The direct causal chain between the trolling and the crime is unprovable. The circumstantial environment is not.

Jail and Release

Chris-chan spent approximately two years in Central Virginia Regional Jail. In 2023, the charges were resolved through an autism disorder deferred disposition — a legal mechanism in which the charges are dismissed contingent on compliance with court-ordered mental health treatment.

Chris-chan was released. The CWCki updated its articles. The documentation continued.

2024–2026

As of early 2026, Christine Weston Chandler is selling Sonichu merchandise on Etsy, attending conventions (and was reportedly ejected from HarmonyCon in Dallas in February 2026), subject to ongoing court-ordered mental health treatment, and still documented by the CWCki.

Thousands of articles. A complete record of one human being’s life, compiled by people who started as spectators and ended as participants in the events they were documenting.

The Observer Effect

In physics, the observer effect describes how the act of measurement changes the thing being measured. The Chris-chan saga is the observer effect applied to a human life. The documentation was not passive. Every fake sweetheart, every Idea Guys manipulation, every financial extraction was an intervention that changed the trajectory of Chris-chan’s life. The trolls were not watching a story unfold. They were writing the story and then documenting what they had written.

The CWCki is not a record of Chris-chan’s life. It is a record of Chris-chan’s life as shaped by the people writing the CWCki. The documentation and the events are entangled. You cannot separate the observation from the outcome.

The Complicity Problem

Everyone who watched was complicit. The CWCki editors who documented everything. The forum users who planned operations. The YouTube audience that watched the meltdown videos. The reaction channels. The podcast episodes. This page.

If you know the story, you participated in the story. The documentation is the exploitation. The attention is the harm.

Why This Matters

Chris-chan has a documented autism spectrum diagnosis. The trolling campaigns were specifically calibrated to exploit traits associated with that diagnosis: literal-mindedness, difficulty detecting deception, emotional reactivity, inability to disengage from provocative stimuli. The trolls knew this. The CWCki documented the diagnosis in clinical detail. The campaigns continued anyway.

When does trolling a person with a cognitive disability become abuse? The answer is that it was always abuse. The question was only interesting as long as the participants refused to ask it.
