- 1957 Jun 2026 The BBC Spaghetti Tree On April 1, 1957, the BBC's flagship current affairs programme Panorama aired a three-minute segment showing Swiss farmers harvesting spaghetti from trees. Narrated by Richard Dimbleby — the most trusted voice in British broadcasting — it fooled millions. Hundreds called the BBC asking how to grow their own. The BBC's response: 'Place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best.'
